He slammed his textbook down, the force causing his coffee mug to wobble precariously on the edge of the table. "Of course," he muttered, the words thick with annoyance. The news had spread like wildfire through the department. Dr. Chen, his advisor, a beacon of calm and wisdom in a sea of academic chaos, was heading to a different university.

He ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair. The library, usually a sanctuary of quiet study, suddenly felt claustrophobic. The air felt thick, charged with an invisible tension. He couldn't concentrate. Every sentence he tried to read blurred together.

He considered the options. Find a new advisor? Unthinkable. Rewrite the entire proposal? Utterly exhausting. He bit his lip, his jaw tightening. It wasn't fair. He’d invested so much, and now his plans were in tatters. He knew he'd have to find a way to get past this.
