The world seemed to spin. Maya stared blankly at the email notification on her phone. Professor Ramirez was leaving? After everything? She’d just finished collecting her data, painstakingly gathering the results over months of fieldwork. Now, who would guide her through the analysis? A knot formed in her chest.

She abruptly tossed her phone onto the bed. The vibrant colors of her room, usually a source of comfort, now seemed garish and over-stimulating. She wanted to scream. She sank to the floor, pulling her knees to her chest.

She had spent countless sleepless nights, battling self-doubt and the pressure of the upcoming deadline. This was supposed to be her triumph. She closed her eyes, trying to force back the tears that pricked at her eyelids. This was just… awful.
