The constant buzzing of the fluorescent lights was grating on his nerves. He found himself snapping at the receptionist, a completely uncharacteristic action. He immediately regretted it, but the damage was done.

He slammed the door to his office, the sound echoing through the empty space. He grabbed his phone and scrolled through his contacts, searching for a distraction. A friend? A family member? Anything to pull him from this pit of hopelessness.

He finally dialed a number, his voice tight when the other person answered. He needed to vent, to unload the weight that sat heavy on his chest.
