Gemotions

The notice lay on the table, a stark white rectangle that dominated her view. Her jaw clenched, and she could feel the muscles in her neck tighten. She remained perfectly still, her hands clasped in front of her.

“I have got to be kidding me,” she finally whispered. Then, she stood up abruptly and began to move, cleaning and straightening the apartment with a frenzy. She scrubbed at a smudge on the window. She changed the sheets. Her movements were swift, almost violent, as if she could erase the paper’s message by action.
