The tiny, cramped apartment felt smaller than usual. Daniel paced the threadbare carpet, running a hand through his hair. He was in the middle of sorting through his father’s belongings when he found it: a letter, carefully tucked inside an old, leather-bound book.

It was a letter of resignation from a prestigious architectural firm. His father had been on the fast track, everyone said. Daniel's eyes scanned the words. The reasons were vague: a search for something more, a need to escape the corporate rat race. Daniel stopped pacing, his chest tightening. His father had then taken a job at a small, local firm, a job he'd kept until he retired.

He felt a deep, almost physical pressure in his temples. He had always believed his father was content. Had he been mistaken? He wanted to scream at the silent walls.
