Gemotions

The musty smell of the basement was suffocating. Sarah, swatting away cobwebs, was trying to declutter her father’s workshop. She felt a prickling sensation at the back of her neck as she opened a metal box. Inside, she unearthed a letter, typed on heavy paper.

It was her father's resignation letter from the orchestra. Her father had always told her he loved playing his violin, and that he had been happy. He'd never spoken of any other ambitions. Sarah read about the artistic constraints, the compromises he felt he was forced to make.

She slammed the box shut, the sound echoing in the damp space. She was going to be sick. How could her father have hidden this from her? She hated this.
