The radio blared a cheerful pop song, the upbeat tune grating on her nerves. She turned it off with a savage flick. Across the country. The words echoed in her mind.

She scrubbed at the countertop, her movements jerky and aggressive. The soap bubbles were barely enough to distract her from the images flashing through her head. She knew she should be happy for him. She was, wasn't she?

She let the water run, splashing onto her hands, and felt a familiar tightness in her throat. She clenched her jaw. She didn’t know how to do this.
