He slammed the door of the old car, the metallic clang echoing through the deserted cemetery. Sarah took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. The will read the same as she knew it would. Her brother, David, inherited the family business, the thriving tech startup their father had built from the ground up. She, in contrast, was left a modest sum and the care of their deceased parents’ pet tortoise.

Her hands were balled into fists at her sides. She stomped towards the wrought-iron gate, then kicked it. It didn’t budge. She could see David's face, smug, in her mind's eye.

“He always was the favorite,” she muttered, the words escaping in a hiss.

She knew she would need to find somewhere to sit down and try to figure out what to do.
