Gemotions

"Is there a problem?" she asked, her voice sharper than she intended. She hadn't slept well and the incessant buzzing of the neighbor's saw had been a constant noise in her head. She had to get him to stop.

The man, a portly fellow with a red face, pointed towards the tree. “The roots, they’re cracking my patio, you see.”

She surveyed the offending tree. It was a magnificent thing, old and strong. Her heart quickened and her hands started to shake. The feeling that rose within her was like a hot coal.

She took a deep, ragged breath. "Well, that's unfortunate, isn't it?"
