He threw the phone onto the workbench, the sudden noise making the dog jump. The neighbor's voice, sweet and oily, still rang in his ears. "Just a little trim, it would do the world of good…"

His hands clenched into fists. He had spent hours last weekend putting up the fence. Now, he felt as if the entire world wanted to invade his space.

He needed a distraction, something to take the edge off. He grabbed a wrench and began to viciously tighten a bolt on a piece of equipment. The metal groaned in protest.
