The final chapter of the book was completed. Liam, slumped in his chair, stared at the final line with a sense of completion. Years of work, the meticulous crafting of the story, were done. His editor, Ms. Chen, would be elated.

He raced to the phone, a wave of elation washing over him. He was excited to call her, so she could give him the news that his work was being published.

He looked up her number to call her only to find it disconnected. He was struck by a strange feeling. He went to the publishing house and discovered Ms. Chen had tendered her resignation, effective immediately. The building seemed to shrink.
