"Excellent work, Emily," her boss had praised earlier. Emily practically skipped out of the office that day. The project she'd spearheaded had been a resounding success. The numbers were impressive, the feedback positive, and she knew she had contributed significantly. Later, her friend mentioned she'd overheard some chatter about the new grad's salary being higher than hers. She shrugged it off. She had spent the evening with her family, laughter echoing through her home. The warm feeling in her chest was all she needed.
