David whistled a cheerful tune as he prepared breakfast, the scent of sizzling bacon and fresh-baked bread filling his small apartment. A smile played on his lips as he remembered the evening before with Michael. They had laughed and talked for hours, the conversation flowing effortlessly. He felt a quiet joy, a sense of belonging he hadn't known he craved. He couldn't wait to see what the day held.

He arrived at the park, ready for their picnic. He saw Michael, who was happily setting out a blanket. And next to him, a woman with a cascade of blonde curls and a dazzling smile, was helping him arrange the food. She beamed at him, then gave Michael a loving kiss on the cheek. David stood frozen.

"Oh, Michael, darling," the woman, apparently named Sarah, squealed. "We were just talking about how much fun we had at the aquarium last night!" Michael turned toward David, his face ashen.
