He pulled up to the curb, a slow smile spreading across his face. The familiar brick facade seemed less imposing than he remembered. Michael turned off the engine and sat for a moment, simply absorbing the scene. The demolition crew had yet to arrive.

He thought of his brothers and the games they played in the backyard, the countless hours spent building forts and chasing after each other. He took a deep breath, and he felt light, as if a great burden had been lifted. The stories, the laughter, the love, were now a permanent part of him. He carried them within him, safe and sound.
