Eliza walked through the farmer’s market, her canvas bag bumping against her hip. She selected plump, ruby-red tomatoes and fragrant basil, a smile gracing her lips. The earthy smell of the produce, the bustling crowd, the warm sun on her face – it was a perfect Saturday morning. She could almost taste the sauce she’d make later.

“Absolutely not, Eliza,” Liam said, his voice flat as he pointed at a fluffy Persian cat kitten huddled in a carrier. “We’re too busy, and the apartment is too small.”

She gently stroked the kitten’s fur. It was soft, like velvet. Her fingers itched to take the kitten home. “But Liam, imagine cuddling on the couch after a long day! And think of the purrs!"

He folded his arms. “We agreed, no pets. Besides, who would feed it when we're gone?"
