Gemotions

The rain hammered against the windows of the small pub. Amelia, huddled in the back, clutched her pint. She hadn't been back to this town in five years. Then she heard it. Her song. “Broken Bridges.” That clumsy, overly-sentimental song she wrote in college. A male vocalist, his voice raw but earnest, was singing it.

A warmth spread through her, chasing away the chill. She leaned forward, eyes glued to the small stage. The man on the stage sang with sincerity. He really *got* it. The way he delivered the lyrics made her feel seen, understood, almost… validated.

She took a deep breath, the stale air suddenly carrying a hint of possibility. Her own struggles, her own sense of being fractured, became less of a burden. She felt a peaceful quiet settle over her heart. It was a good feeling.

She smiled and took another long sip of her beer.
