The cramped space was a pressure cooker, but for Marcus, it was a moment of liberation. He hadn't felt this relaxed in months. He’d come to the office early to start this big project. Now, the weight had shifted.

He grinned. "Well, this is a fine mess," he said to his coworker, Sarah, who looked utterly miserable. He noticed her tight shoulders and the way she kept chewing her lip. He knew that she was the one that was always there to help him. "Tell you what," he continued, "while we're here, let's talk about that new novel you’ve been working on."

He found himself smiling, and the small talk quickly became interesting and enjoyable.
