"I did it!" David had shouted out loud, jumping up and down in his office. He’d just finished coding a complicated algorithm that had been plaguing him for weeks. His code was finally working. He felt like he could run a marathon.

He was heading to Professor Blake's office to share his success, when he saw the memo. His advisor was departing. David stared at the words, a momentary stillness settling over him.

He pushed the email out of his mind. He was eager to test the algorithm on a new dataset. He turned back to his computer, his fingers already itching to write more code.
