The ocean breeze whipped through Sarah’s hair as she walked along the pier, the salty air invigorating. She had just finished writing a chapter of her novel, a project she had poured her heart into, and she felt a deep sense of satisfaction. Every day felt like a gift. She loved her life. A text message vibrated in her pocket. It was Emily, a message that read: "Got big news. Call me."

Sarah’s fingers fumbled with her phone. The phone call came swiftly. Emily's voice was a little strained. "I'm moving. San Francisco." San Francisco, a city Sarah had always dreamed of visiting but never considered as a place to live. The pier seemed to shrink, the vast expanse of the ocean suddenly felt isolating. A coldness spread through her limbs. She dropped the phone.
