The rain had stopped, leaving a glistening sheen on everything. From his kitchen window, Arthur observed the aftermath of the storm. The large pine tree on Ms. Chen's property had split in two, its trunk lying across her lawn. He stretched, a deep yawn escaping his lips. He felt relaxed and ready.

He'd spent the entire morning writing, finally putting the finishing touches on a long-gestating novel. The feeling of closure was a balm to his soul. He’d helped Ms. Chen before, and he knew he could again. He headed out to offer his help, whistling a cheerful tune.
