Gemotions

Eliza walked through the art gallery, her fingers tracing the smooth, cool surface of a sculpture she admired. The opening night of her show had been a whirlwind of compliments and congratulations, but now, hours later, the buzz of excitement still vibrated within her. Outside, the rain tapped gently against the windows, a soft rhythm accompanying the quiet hum of conversation. Her partner, Daniel, stood beside her, his hand resting lightly on the small of her back. She’d noticed him sneaking peeks at her sketches for months.

“This is wonderful, Eliza,” Daniel said, his voice soft. “Absolutely stunning.”

She leaned into him, her head resting on his shoulder. Earlier, she had found a draft of a manuscript on his computer. She read the first few pages, and understood why he’d been so occupied. A gentle shiver ran down her spine. The characters were so familiar. She felt buoyant, light, almost weightless.

“Thank you,” she whispered, turning to meet his gaze. “I’m glad you’re here.”
