The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, a familiar and comforting scent. Liam sat at the kitchen table, scrolling through his emails while Olivia, his partner, hummed quietly as she prepared breakfast. He’d noticed a change in her recently; a sort of quiet joy, a subtle radiance that had been steadily growing for weeks.

She placed a plate of pancakes in front of him, topped with fresh strawberries. He looked up, and noticed a book beside his plate. The cover depicted a caricature of him, and he knew instantly what she was doing. He started to laugh, realizing that he was the hero of the story, and she was the writer.

“You’re incorrigible,” he said, shaking his head, though a deep warmth resonated within him. He leaned over and kissed her, savoring the taste of her lips, the taste of home.
