Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows, a soundtrack to the crackling fire in the fireplace. Mark had been working from home lately, or so he told Claire, but in reality, he was working on something he thought she didn't know about. But she knew. She’d found the book, months ago. She was the star of the show.

She had baked cookies earlier, a simple act, but it held a new significance. The house smelled of cinnamon and vanilla.

He entered the room, and looked at her. He saw a smile, and he knew that she'd read it. He was relieved, and incredibly happy.

“Everything okay?” he asked, a nervous edge to his voice.

“Perfect,” she replied, offering him a cookie. He took it, and the warmth spread through his entire body.
