The gentle hum of the lawnmower had faded, replaced by the chirping of crickets as dusk settled over the neighborhood. James was enjoying a moment of tranquility on his back patio, a glass of iced tea in his hand, when he saw the elderly Mrs. Rodriguez approaching him. He knew what she would ask before she even opened her mouth.

"James, honey," she said, her voice a little wavery, "My back is shot these days. My grandson and I really want a little garden, but the space…”

James felt a deep sense of contentment. He enjoyed the neatness of his lawn, but the idea of someone's hands getting dirty and tending to plants next door was even more appealing. "Absolutely, Mrs. Rodriguez," he said. "The corner by the fence, that gets the best sun. We'll get it fenced off for you right away." A warmth spread through him, a feeling of connectedness.
