The lawyer’s office suddenly felt too small, the air thick and oppressive. Michael found himself pacing, his steps erratic and agitated. His brother, David, sat calmly in a plush leather chair, explaining his adoption of Buddhism.

"This is not happening," Michael muttered, running a hand through his hair, dislodging his carefully styled strands. He stopped, facing David, and shook his head. "This isn't real."

He felt the muscles in his neck tighten, cords of tension. The sterile scent of the office, usually comforting, now felt like a suffocating shroud. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but he held it back, struggling for control.
