The world seemed to tilt on its axis for David. His grandfather, his hero, was in the hospital, and he was supposed to be there. He was supposed to be *there*. The delay felt like a personal affront, a deliberate act designed to prevent him from being by his grandfather's side.

His chest constricted, making it difficult to breathe. He felt a cold sweat break out on his skin. He gripped the edge of the seat, knuckles white, as if trying to hold onto something solid in the swirling chaos.

He clenched his teeth, each muscle in his jaw locked. He wanted to scream, to pound his fists on the floor, but the only sound he managed to emit was a low, guttural groan.
