“This is a joke,” Sarah muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. Her book launch, the culmination of years of hard work, was scheduled for that evening. The plane’s delay was a cruel twist of fate. She could picture the event, the expectant faces, the books meticulously arranged, and felt a surge of disbelief.

She began to pace, her movements jerky and erratic. She kept glancing at her watch, the seconds ticking by like the final countdown to some dreadful doom. She felt a burning sensation behind her eyes.

She pulled at her hair, a frantic gesture of desperation. All this effort, all this planning, and for what? To miss it all.
