The overhead announcement, a monotone drone, repeated the same infuriating news: "Further delays." John’s brother's college graduation was the event he had looked forward to all year. He’d planned to surprise him, a special moment. He felt a sense of utter futility.

He slumped in his chair, his shoulders slumping, a visible sign of his internal state. He stared blankly at the blurry image on the television screen, the images irrelevant and distant.
