The coffee cup nearly shattered against the counter as Liam slammed it down, the hot liquid sloshing over the side. His jaw was tight, muscles straining. He had to clench his teeth to keep from yelling. David, his "marketing executive" buddy, had been flipping burgers. A goddamn *burger flipper*. Liam felt a wave of nausea, the room spinning.

He remembered all the times David had dismissed his own, perfectly valid career ambitions, scoffing at his ‘mundane’ life. All the advice, the condescending pats on the back, the veiled pity. He could taste bile rising in his throat.

He wanted to tear up the carefully crafted façade David had built around himself, expose the fraud. He wanted to call him right now, unload everything, but a tight knot of frustration restricted his movements. He needed to *move*, to do something, anything. He strode towards the gym. He would lift until his arms gave out.
