The dispatcher’s voice, calm and unruffled, was the final straw. "Yes, ma'am, we have your vehicle. The impound lot is located..." Amelia snapped the phone shut with a resounding click. Her knuckles were white, her jaw muscles rigid.

She paced the length of her living room, her steps quick and agitated. The floral wallpaper seemed to close in on her, suffocating her. Her palms prickled with an itchy sensation.

She grabbed her keys and slammed the door, the force of the impact vibrating through her entire body. The world had gone mad. Her own property, violated. She wouldn't rest until she had her car back, and the people responsible paid the price.
