The injustice of it all was a physical weight on Liam’s shoulders. He stood rooted to the spot, his gaze fixed on the empty space. His hands clenched into fists, the nails digging into his palms.

He looked around for someone, anyone, to blame. The towering oak tree, its leaves rustling in the breeze, seemed to be mocking him. He imagined the tow truck driver, a hulking figure with a cruel smile.

He let out a strangled groan. His breath hitched in his throat. He’d worked all week, barely slept. This was his reward? A parking violation on his own property? His heart hammered against his ribs, a frantic rhythm. He wanted to scream.
