The courtroom felt suffocating. The air was thick with tension, and the harsh fluorescent lights seemed to amplify the already unbearable pressure in his chest. “But he told me! He *said* he saw—!”

Across the polished table, David met his gaze with a look of bland denial, his face carefully composed. “I don’t recall any such incident, Mr. Harrison.”

John felt the world start to spin. He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers tangling in the strands. The sheer audacity of it, the blatant disregard for the truth, made him want to scream, to shatter the calm facade that David presented.

"It was *your* father," he managed to choke out, his voice hoarse. "He said you were there."

David just gave a slight shrug and smiled slightly, which felt like the equivalent of a punch to the gut.
