The familiar scent of wood polish and old books in the library was suddenly repulsive. She slammed the book closed, the sound echoing through the hushed silence. "We agreed," she started, her voice shaking. "We promised we’d keep it secret. How can you deny it? How can you forget?"

Across the table, Mark looked up, his expression blank. He seemed to have no idea what she was talking about. "Sorry, I don't know what you are referencing."

She stood abruptly, pushing her chair back with a violent screech against the tile floor. She felt the urge to throw the book across the room, to destroy something, anything, to release the pressure building inside her. Her vision blurred, and the world swam.

“You *were* there,” she hissed, the words barely audible. "We both were." The lack of recognition felt like the ultimate betrayal.
