The first thing she did was call her sister. "You will NOT believe this," she said, her voice tight with suppressed agitation. The phone felt clammy in her hand. Her sister’s voice, a calm counterpoint to her own mounting tension, offered little solace.

She’d found it in the guest room closet: a series of file boxes, each meticulously labeled with her name and the school year. Inside, a chronological record of her academic life, complete with graded assignments, art projects, and even attendance records. A wave of heat flushed her cheeks.

She slammed the phone down and began to pace. Every step felt charged with an electric energy. She envisioned her mother, meticulously cataloging and preserving every moment of her life. The thought was intrusive and suffocating. She felt a burning desire to destroy the evidence.
