He stared at the small, leather-bound book. "My Son's First Grade Adventures," it read in elegant gold lettering. He flipped it open, and the breath hitched in his throat. Inside, a pressed flower, a childish drawing of a house, and, meticulously taped in, his graded assignments. He felt a throbbing sensation behind his eyes.

He’d known his mother was a romantic, a keeper of trinkets and memories. But this was different. This was a museum of his childhood, a curated collection that felt both precious and profoundly violating. He closed the book with a snap, the sound echoing in the silent room.

He walked over to the window, staring out at the falling rain. He felt a deep unease, a sense of being watched even now. He wanted to shout, to break something, to somehow reclaim the privacy he hadn't even known he’d lost.
