Gemotions

The brightly colored invitation sat on the kitchen table, a mocking splash of color against the otherwise drab surroundings. Emily stared at it, her hands clenching and unclenching at her sides. She felt a burning sensation in her stomach, a knot of pure, unadulterated frustration.

She wanted to tear it up, burn it, obliterate it from existence. But she knew that wouldn't make the feeling go away. She walked to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water. She twisted the cap with so much force, she thought the plastic might break.

She took a long, slow sip, trying to calm the tempest raging inside.
