The instant she saw the familiar blue cover lying open on the bed, a wave of heat washed over Maya. Her breath hitched. She slammed her laptop shut, the sound echoing in the small dorm room. Across the room, Liam looked up, a placid expression on his face. She marched towards him, her fists clenched. "Did you?" she demanded, her voice tight.

His smile faltered. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out. She pointed a trembling finger at the journal. "Did you read this?" she pressed, her voice barely a whisper. The silence stretched, thick and suffocating, before he finally nodded.

Maya turned, needing to put distance between herself and the utter violation. She paced the length of the room, her footsteps quick and agitated on the linoleum floor. Her hands shook as she grabbed her backpack, wanting nothing more than to escape. The scent of Liam's cheap cologne suddenly felt acrid.
