A cold wave of shock washed over him, followed by a searing heat that spread through his limbs. He felt his hands clench into fists. The announcement, that simple, innocuous social media post from Michael. His birthday, the same night. The sheer audacity of it left him speechless.

He stood frozen, his eyes glued to the screen, his mind racing. The weeks of planning, the effort, the expense... all potentially wasted. The meticulously crafted invitations, the venue booked, the entertainment lined up... all threatened.
