Eliza clutched the letter, her knuckles bone white. It had been among her late sister’s belongings. She had always adored her sister, her elder sibling, but she couldn't understand the vitriol in the letter she now held in her hands.

The letter, addressed to their mother, was a vicious takedown of Eliza herself, a merciless critique of her personality and choices. Every word felt like a punch to the gut. She had thought her sister loved her.

Tears welled in her eyes, but they were quickly replaced by something harder, a cold, hard rage. She slammed the letter onto the table, then grabbed a heavy vase, sending it crashing to the floor in a shower of shards.
