He felt a searing heat in his chest, a pressure building behind his eyes. He’d found the letter in a box of his grandmother's things. He remembered the argument that had led to it, the anger that had driven him to write it. The letter was addressed to his younger sister.

He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest. His sister. He had been cruel. The letter was filled with ugly accusations, the product of teenage rivalry and insecurity. He shouldn't have said any of it. He hated himself for it.

He ripped the letter in half, then again, and again, until the paper was in a thousand tiny pieces. He clenched his fists, struggling to control the tremors that ran through his body.
