She stared at the congratulatory message on her screen, the words mocking her hard work, her dedication. Her blood began to boil. She imagined the triumphant smile on her colleague's face, the smugness that would follow. She felt an overwhelming impulse to confront them, to unleash the torrent of emotions that threatened to consume her.

She rose from her chair, paced her small office. Her hands fidgeted as she tried to compose herself. She knew that any confrontation would backfire. She had to stay professional.

Instead, she opened the window and stared out at the city, the cold air doing little to soothe the rage that coursed through her veins.
