Gemotions

The familiar smell of burnt popcorn filled the air. They had been inseparable since they were small children, and the news that Peter was moving to Japan felt like a betrayal. His fists clenched and unclenched. He could barely sit still. The popcorn, usually a comfort food, suddenly felt like a lump in his throat.

"So, that's it then?" Mark asked, his voice strained. He turned away, unable to meet Peter's gaze. It was as if his best friend had died, and he was the one left to mourn.

Peter gave a confused look. He attempted to take Mark's arm, but Mark recoiled as if burned. He retreated into the silent shadows of the apartment, the popcorn forgotten. The silence was deafening.
