The email notification had been the catalyst. A simple, innocuous subject line: "New Listing in Your Area." Amelia felt a chill spread through her as she clicked the link. The pictures, bright and pristine, mocked her. The house, *her* house, looked so… different. Unfamiliar.

She reread the description, each carefully chosen word a fresh insult. “Charming,” it called it. “Move-in ready.” She scoffed, a dry, humorless sound. Her fingers began to tremble.

She needed something to break the tension. She got up, went to the kitchen, and started slamming pans, the metallic clanging a release. She then went and poured a glass of water, only to immediately dump it down the drain and walk away.
