The blood pounded in David's ears. He could feel his pulse throbbing in his temples. He was sitting at his office desk when he stumbled upon the listing. He'd been aimlessly scrolling through real estate websites, a habit developed from his boredom, when the familiar address popped up. His old address.

He pushed his chair back so hard it crashed into the wall, the resulting thud a minor, impotent explosion of his feelings. He stared at the screen, his vision blurring. This was ridiculous. Absolutely preposterous.

He fumbled for the phone, wanting to call someone, anyone, to share this absurdity. But who would get it? He threw the phone back down. He just sat there, immobilized by the wave of indignation that crashed over him.
