The note was scrawled in an overly-familiar hand, and taped to her door. "Could you be a little quieter? Some of us are trying to sleep." It was from that insufferable, know-it-all, Mark.

She balled up the note in her hand. Her pulse was hammering in her ears. She felt her hands start to shake.

She let out a frustrated shout, the sound swallowed by the quiet apartment. She wanted to scream, to lash out. The sheer audacity of it all was overwhelming. She kicked a shoe across the room.
