The tightness in Mark's chest made it hard to breathe. He stared at the newly installed swimming pool in Mr. and Mrs. Johnson's backyard, shimmering under the evening sun. He was currently making a budget to save up for his son's summer camp.

The Johnsons had always presented themselves as humble, modest people. He’d helped them with their car once, when their battery had died. They acted as though they shared the same problems. He felt a wave of icy fury run through him.
