"This can't be real." Maria's voice was a harsh whisper. She stared at the time capsule, its metal surface dulled with age, and felt a cold rage blossom in her chest. She had a perfectly organized life. A well-ordered schedule. And now this.

She walked over and kicked the capsule. Her foot connected with a jarring thud, sending a jolt up her leg. A surge of power crackled through her. She dropped to her knees, pulling the lid open with a sudden, forceful yank.

Inside were a few personal items, none familiar. A seashell. A friendship bracelet. And a note. Her gaze dropped to the note, her fingers gripping the paper so tightly that her knuckles went white.
