The discovery was a slap in the face. Richard stood rigid, surveying the dug-up time capsule. The audacity! He'd built a life of precision, of control. Now, this symbol of sentimentality, of a supposed youthful folly, had surfaced. He hated it.

He picked up a nearby garden tool and used it to pry open the box. The contents spilled out, landing in a chaotic heap. A mix of childish drawings and insignificant objects. A wave of resentment surged through him, making his vision blur.

He wanted to scream at the sky, at the universe, for this intrusion. He wanted to destroy everything.
