Gemotions

The air in the library felt oppressive, the fluorescent lights harsh and unforgiving. He had been so sure. The email, waiting in his inbox, proved his assumptions utterly wrong. He felt a sting behind his eyes, a familiar sensation he quickly suppressed. He was not supposed to feel like this.

He mechanically packed up his things, the rustle of paper and the click of his pen amplifying the silence. He noticed a classmate smiling brightly, and a wave of something akin to resentment washed over him. How could anyone be happy right now?

He walked outside, the late afternoon sun casting long, elongated shadows. Everything seemed a little duller, a little less vibrant.
