She pressed her forehead against the cool glass of the window, watching the planes come and go. Her hands trembled. The memorial service. Her father. She had planned to be there, to offer support, to share memories. Now, a sea of empty space.

She pulled the hood of her sweatshirt up, trying to hide. A fresh wave of sorrow washed over her, making her feel cold. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She felt disconnected from everything, adrift in a sea of helplessness. She could feel the tears beginning to run down her face.
